Hiking, my son and I came across a blooming datura plant in a rocky wash. He said, suspicious of the enormous white flowers, "That can't be native!" I had to laugh. It seems to defy what we think desert adapted plants should look like. But I think your comment about how we come to the desert wanting to change it and end up different ourselves is so apt and insightful.

Thank you, Isaac, I really enjoy all of your posts and always look forward to the next!

Thank you for reading!

Datura is such a surprising plant. I feel like such a failure with native seeds (penstemons and the usual spring annuals being the obvious exceptions), so I was glad to see it germinate and thrive. I finally, after many failed efforts, have Goodding’s verbena popping up here and there and I’m just thrilled!

Hopefully we run into each soon. I was bummed that the Desert Love event got cancelled!

That's so great that you are having some luck with native seeds in your garden! Goodding's verbena is really nice and another one of those that are not so easy to find.

I was bummed too, but it was already kinda too hot outside for me, so now happy that it's rescheduled for November!! Hope our paths cross before then!
